It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series on October 30, 1938 and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network, directed and narrated by Orson Welles.
This broadcast was presented as world news, which suggested to many listeners that an actual alien invasion by Martians was taking place. It ran without commercial breaks, which added to the programs realism. This broadcast caused panic, anxiety, and tension, because this is post WWII, and some people took it as a real world broadcast.
This is very interesting to me because it showed that people relied on the radio to hear news or entertainment. This broadcast sounded realistic to me, so back then to people it must of been very realistic. Even in the beginning of the broadcast it states its a fake broadcast, people would still get so consumed in media, that they think its real.
THIS IS BEFORE WW2!!!!!
